My reflection on Winter Storm

  Today is very unusual. I will say that this is an extraordinary cold condition that I experienced since I landed in Canada. A big winter storm that has happened since 3 days ago, from Friday, was so bad in compared to other winter times before.

   I as usual always stay in my friend’s house every weekend. When I wanted to go home on Monday morning. I just could not do it because the car of my friend won’t even move and go on. It is because there was too much snow and sounding scary wind. The storm brought a huge volume of snow.The speed of the wind was around 32 km/hour. It made outside condition became even colder. It almost killed me, I would say so. My body was not ready yet when I had to stay outside doing a shuffle.  It was really really cold.

   This winter storm made me realized that we as human being are not supposed to be arrogant. We feel that we can always conquer and control the world and nature. With a lot of inventions and advanced technology that have been created by human, we become our own God. We think that we are the “Creator” because we can control the nature. Such thinking has been shrunken today if we look at the winter storm that has been going on. A visit of such “small” winter storm almost paralyzed us or at least for me it really made me so. It brought the weather down to –32 degree Celsius. It’s just unbelievable. There is nothing that we can do almost.

  The winter storm as of now, Monday night, has slowed down and calmed. Then it reminds me that I need to thank to God that I already resigned from my night work that “tortured” me physically and mentally. I could not imagine what would happen to me if I still worked there. I do not think I can still survive until the dawn comes.

   So, my first big winter storm has touched my heart and mind. It made me humble as human who always makes mistakes and sins every minute. This winter storm made me realized that there is a higher power that created, governs, and sustains this universe – Allah.
